ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An agent comprising (+)-(2S,3S)-3[(S)-3-methyl-1-(3- methylbutylcarbamoyl)butylcarbamoyl]-2-oxiranecarboxylic acid, its salt or its ethyl ester, which is useful for the treatment and prevention of cataract, and a method for the preparation thereof in the form of an eye drop comprising adjusting a pH of an aqueous solvent in such a manner that the pH of the final preparation falls in the range of from 3 through 7, before or after mixing the compound with the aqueous solvent. The above compound has superior effects in the treatment and prevention of cataract. Particularly, an agent in the form of an aqueous solution and having a pH of 3-7 shows superior corneal permeability and is a stable agent for the treatment and prevention of cataract.
