[PROBLEMS] Although fucoxanthin extracted from wakame (Undaria pinnatifida) is efficacious as an agent having an antiobesity activity, fucoxanthin is contained in only a small amount in a matured brown alga body and, therefore, it takes a long time and a large cost to obtain a practically usable amount of fucoxanthin. Moreover, it has been required to develop an agent having an enhanced antiobesity activity. Thus, it is intended to specify a carotenoid having a stronger antiobesity activity than fucoxanthin and provide an agent having an antiobesity activity and a method of inhibiting obesity by using the same. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] As the results of intensive studies for finding a carotenoid having a stronger antiobesity activity than fucoxanthin and a material for economically obtaining the same, it is found out that these problems can be solved by using ascidian. Ascidian is a general name involving marine animals belonging to the phylum Chordata, the subphylum Urochordata, and the class Ascidiacea and these animals widely occur throughout the country. Fucoxanthinol is extracted from, in particular, the internal organs and shell of ascidian and it is clarified that this substance has a strong antiobesity activity.
Le problème à résoudre dans le cadre de cette invention est le suivant : bien que la fucoxanthine extraite du wakame (Undaria pinnatifida) soit efficace en tant qu~agent présentant une activité anti-obésité, elle n~est contenue qu~en petite quantité dans un corps d~algue brune amené à maturation ; par conséquent, l~obtention d~une quantité de fucoxanthine pratiquement utilisable est très onéreuse et prend beaucoup de temps. De plus, il est nécessaire de développer un agent présentant une activité anti-obésité améliorée. La présente invention concerne donc la spécification d~un caroténoïde présentant une activité anti-obésité plus forte que la fucoxanthine, ainsi qu~un agent présentant une activité anti-obésité et un procédé permettant d~inhiber l~obésité en utilisant ledit agent. La solution proposée consiste à résoudre ces problèmes à l~aide de l~ascidie, comme l~ont prouvé des recherches approfondies visant à trouver un caroténoïde présentant une activité anti-obésité plus forte que la fucoxanthine et un matériau permettant de l~obtenir de façon économique. L~ascidie est un nom général impliquant des animaux marins appartenant au phylum Chordata, au sous-phylum Urochordataainsi qu'à la classe Ascidiacea, lesdits animaux étant présents en grande quantité à travers le pays. Le fucoxanthinol est extrait, en particulier, des organes internes et de la coquille de l~ascidie, et il est établi que cette substance présente une forte activité anti-obésité
