ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In an agitating type washing machine a washing drive motor is run reciprocally in opposite directions to rotate an agitating wheel within a washing tank alternately in one and the other directions to perform intended washing. The agitating type washing machine comprises rotational angle detecting means for detecting an angle of rotation of said agitating wheel, and control means for controlling said motor in response to a detection signal from said rotational angle detecting means. The control means inter- rupts energization of said motor when the angle of rotation of said agitating wheel reaches a predetermined value and runs the motor in a reverse direction after rotation of said agitating wheel by inertia in one direction has been almost stopped.
