ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention discloses novel aglycone compounds of the formula II Image (II) wherein R1 is a lower alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and processes for their manufacture. These novel daunomycinone derivatives are useful in the preparation of novel daunomycin derivatives which are useful in treating certain mammalian tumors.
