ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In an air bag unit provided with an air bag (1) for receiving an occupant by inflating when the vehicle is collided, said air bag (1) has at least one side coated with rubber or thermoplastic resin and is fur- nished with two base cloths (2, 3) cut in the pre- determined shape, and these base cloths (2, 3) are overlapped with each other so that the surfaces coated with said rubber or said thermoplastic resin face inward. A reinforcement cloth (9) is placed between outer peripheral edges of these base cloths (2, 3), and these two base cloths (2, 3) and the reinforcement cloth (9) are thermally welded together. Because there is no sewn portion by sewing threads as in the case of the sewing method, the bonded portion is not thick. As the result, the package volume of the air bag can be minimized, and it is possible to design the air bag unit in lightweight and compact form. Because the bonded portion of two base cloths can be reinforced by the reinforcement cloth, sufficient strength can be maintained, and two base cloths are not easily detached when inflating gas is rapidly introduced into them. - 15 -
