In the side structure of a motor vehicle an air bag module can be incorporated, where in the case of a lateral impact of the motor vehicle the gas bag moves into the space for- med by the side structure and the adjacently seated passen- ger. To avoid injuries, the gas bag consists of two congru- ent sheathing sections lying one above the other, which are joined along their edges by sewing, where at least 50% of the length of the seam constitutes an inner seam, and the rest constitutes an outer seam.
