ABSTRACT The present invention relates to an improvement in a known air burst munitions simulator projectile having (a) a munitions payload container (b) means mounted on the container to contain an explosive to cause the container to burst and (c) an obturator for the container and means mounted on the con- tainer to contain explosives. The improvement is in the container and obtura- tor being formed wholly by a light plastic material which shatters when the container is caused to burst. In addition, there can be provided a launcher for the projectile of this invention, having a muzzle formed from an expendable material such as cardboard. The present invention provides an inexpensive projectile formed from a light material. This light material in place of metal components reduces the missile hazzard from the shattered projectile considerably. In addition, the projectile shatters extensively rather than just breaking up. The launcher of the present invention is also inexpensive and thus can be an expendable component if one desires to avoid the procedure of decontaminating the launcher following its use. The launcher is also less heavy than known launchers and consequently easier to handle.
