The invention concerns an air classifier with centrifugal action comprising a rotor (10) with vertical axis provided with blades (14) evenly distributed on its periphery, guide vanes arranged around the rotor (10) and a shell containing the rotor (10) and the guide vanes, and provided with intakes for air and the material to be classified, with a discharge conduit (22) for the air loaded with the fine fraction of the material and an outlet for the coarse fraction, the air penetrating into the rotor (10) at its periphery, through channels (15) formed between the blades (14), and circulating inside the rotor (10) towards the discharge conduit (22). In order to modify the particle size distribution of the finished product, the air circulating in the rotor (10) is divided into at least two separate currents, and the rotor (10) is equipped with means for adjusting (28) the speed and/or the rate flow of at least one of the currents.
