An air conditioning system for airplanes for conditioning the moisture containing air, which is under excess pressure, for air conditioning an airplane cabin. The air conditioning system includes at least one compressor; a first and a second air expansion turbines and a water separator, which is disposed between said first and second air expansion turbine. To control the degree of moisture in the cabin air, the degree of air expansion can be adjusted selectively in the first air expansion turbine.
