ABSTRACT An air core reactor having a first major coil section with coil windings circumscribing a central air core and extending therealong and a second minor coil section arranged coaxially therewith and mounted thereon, said minor coil section having a coil winding spirally cir- cumscribing the longitudinal axis of the air core. The coil winding of the minor coil section can be tapped at different positions for connecting selected portions of such winding in series with the windings of the main coil. The main coil section preferably consists of two or more rigid sleeve-like coil units disposed in concentric radially spaced relation between a pair of spiders which in turn are connected to the windings of the main coil. One spider is electrically connected to the minor coil winding by a jumper movable from one selected position to another when tapping the minor coil section at different positions.
