A protective device for automobiles is used for protecting the entry of undesired materials through air inlet openings in the front of the vehicle. It may include a metal mesh for preventing the ingress of insects and stones or it may be in imperforate panel to serve as a winter front. The protector includes a tubular metal frame that surrounds the opening and conforms to it in size and shape and a protective panel surrounded by and secured to the frame. The frame is fastened in place using a set of tabs that project from the frame into the opening and hook-and-loop fasteners removably attaching the tabs to the vehicle body.
