ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An air deployable ignitor for igniting crude oil On water includes a pair of barrels defining floats supporting a wire mesh basket therebetween, solid fuel in the form of rocket propellant and gelled kerosene in the basket, and an ignitor wire extending into the solid fuel for flameless igniting of the solid fuel. The fuel burns for a sufficiently lengthy period of time to ensure that once ignited, the oil continues to burn.
