An air distribution unit for mounting in the wall or floor of a room having a plenum space behind said wall or floor, comprises a housing having an air inlet for communication with the plenum space and an air outlet; a blower between the air inlet and air outlet for drawing air from the plenum space and exhausting it through the air outlet into the room; and a grille assembly mounted over the air outlet. The grille assembly has aerodynamically profiled air distribution channels which may be circumferentially disposed, extending between the upper and lower surfaces thereof. The air distribution channels open out onto the upper surface of the grille assembly at a shallow angle in a radially outward direction so that air flowing out of said channels is directed outwardly at an angle of between about 15° and 45° to the plane of the grille assembly. A person sitting above the unit sits in a localized pocket of mainly fresh air without experiencing draughts or discomfort.
La présente invention a pour objet un appareil de distribution d'air destiné à être monté dans un mur ou dans le plancher d'une pièce, comportant une chambre de répartition de l'air logée derrière le mur ou sous le plancher en question, et comportant une enveloppe percée d'un orifice d'entrée d'air en communication avec la chambre de répartition et un orifice de sortie d'air; une soufflante montée entre l'orifice d'entrée et l'orifice de sortie aspire l'air de la chambre de répartition et le refoule dans la pièce à travers l'orifice de sortie; un ensemble de grille commande l'orifice de sortie d'air. L'ensemble de grille en question comporte des canaux de distribution d'air présentant un profil aérodynamique et pouvant être groupés en configuration circulaire ou alignés de haut en bas des surfaces de celui-ci. Les canaux de distribution de l'air s'ouvrent vers la surface supérieure de l'ensemble de grille, selon un angle peu prononcé dans une direction radiale extérieure, de telle sorte que l'air s'écoule à travers les canaux en question selon un angle compris entre 15 et 45 degrés du plan de la grille. Une personne assise au-dessus du dispositif en question se trouve à l'intérieur d'une poche d'air frais sans ressentir ni courants d'air ni autre forme d'inconfort.
