ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION A dispensing apparatus comprising a container defining a chamber adapted to contain a substance to be dispensed into the atmosphere, the container including a first surface having therein a first opening communicating with the chamber, a plate member including a second surface and being secured to the container with the second surface facing and spaced from the first surface, and a valve plate including a second opening and being trapped between the first and second surfaces in sliding relation thereto for movement between a first position wherein the valve plate closes the first opening and a second position wherein the second opening is aligned with the first opening to permit the chamber to communicate with the atmosphere.
