An air handling unit has a fan wheel in offset placement and a plenum configuration preventing line of sight noise transmission into the air system supplied by the air handling unit. The fan wheel is so placed and the plenum configuration optimized so as to obtain the benefit of an eddy current stabilized flow from the fan wheel, which provides a further improvement in the aeoustic performance of the air handling unit.
