An air navigation aid method and a device therefor are disclosed. Modern aircraft are fitted with sophisticated flight management systems that make decisions on the use of various navigation instruments according to the estimated performance thereof at any given time. Against this background, a method is provided for ensuring that the pilot of the aircraft is better informed of the situation resulting from such automatic decision-making. According to the method, a central field showing the overall use of the navigation instruments, peripheral fields showing the individual instruments, and a visible connecting symbol between the central field and each peripheral field corresponding to a navigation instrument that is currently in use, are displayed on a display screen. In one embodiment, the central field (D1) is a disc with a diameter representing the average position error arising from the use of the various instruments, and the visible connecting symbols are coloured radial sectors extending between the central field and some of the peripheral fields. The names of the navigation instruments are shown in the peripheral fields.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif d'assistance à la navigation aérienne. Etant donné que les avions modernes sont équipés de systèmes de gestion de vol sophistiqués qui prennent des décisions d'utilisation des différents instruments de navigation en fonction de leurs performances estimées à un moment donné, l'invention propose un procédé pour donner au pilote de l'avion une meilleure connaissance de la situation qui résulte de ces décisions automatiques. Le procédé consiste à afficher sur un écran de visualisation une zone centrale qui représente l'utilisation globale des instruments de navigation, et des zones périphériques qui représentent les instruments individuels, avec un tracé de relation visible entre la zone centrale et une zone périphérique particulière lorsque cette dernière correspond à un instrument de navigation effectivement utilisé. Dans un exemple, la zone centrale D1 est un disque dont le diamètre représente l'erreur moyenne de position donnée par l'utilisation des différents instruments, et les tracés de relation visibles sont des secteurs radiaux colorés qui s'étendent entre la zone centrale et certaines zones périphériques. Les noms des instruments de navigation sont indiqués dans les zones périphériques.
