92B105/MW ABSTRACT AIR SEPARATION Air is compressed in a compressor 4. A minor air stream is taken from the compressor 4 and is cooled in a heat exchanger 12 by heat exchange with a pressurised stream of water. The cooled minor air stream is separated in a plant 30 into oxygen and nitrogen. Oxygen is supplied via a compressor 32 to a blast furnace 36 in which iron ore is reduced to iron and a low grade fuel gas is formed. The fuel gas is compressed in compressor 40 and is moisturised in a gas-liquid contact column 18 with water supplied from the heat exchanger 12. The moisturised fuel gas is supplied to a combustion chamber 6 and is burnt therein utilising the rest of the compressed air from the compressor 4. The resulting combustion gases are expanded in an expander a which is employed in the generation of electrical power.
