An emergency brake backup system is achieved by selectively interconnecting the air suspension as an additional reservoir to the air brake system. That is, if the charging system or primary reservoir fails, compressed air in the air spring reservoirs is used as an energy source to supply the pressurized air required for brake function. This can be achieved with minor modification to existing tractor and trailer brake systems that employ air suspension assemblies.

L'invention concerne un système de secours de freinage d'urgence, obtenu par interconnexion sélective de la suspension pneumatique comme un réservoir supplémentaire du système de freinage pneumatique. Si le système de charge ou réservoir primaire tombe en panne, on utilise de l'air comprimé dans les réservoirs à ressort pneumatique comme source d'énergie pour générer l'air sous pression nécessaire à la fonction de freinage. Ceci implique une modification moindre des systèmes de freinage de tracteurs et de remorques dans lesquels sont utilisés des ensembles de suspension pneumatique.
