An air treatment system having a relatively large capacity yet a relatively small footprint and low sound level. The air treatment system includes a housing defining adjacent vertically extending inlet and outlet chambers. A blower is mounted within the inlet chamber to move air through the system. A generally planar filter is contained within the outlet chamber and is spaced apart from the rear wall of the housing to define a plenum. The rear wall of the housing is curved so that the plenum is tapered to provide uniform pressure over the face of the filter. The system is adapted to rest upon the floor or mount either vertically or horizontal to a wall. Additionally, the system includes a control mechanism that allows the system to run at full speed for a predetermined period of time and then automatically return to its previous speed level.

Cette invention se rapporte à un système de traitement de l'air ayant une capacité relativement importante, tout en étant relativement peu encombrant et peu bruyant. Ce système de traitement de l'air comporte un habitacle définissant des chambres d'admission et d'échappement verticales adjacentes. Un ventilateur installé à l'intérieur de la chambre d'admission sert à mettre en circulation l'air à travers le système. Un filtre généralement plan, qui est disposé à l'intérieur de la chambre d'échappement, est situé à distance de la paroi arrière de l'habitacle de façon à définir une chambre de répartition d'air. La paroi arrière de l'habitacle est incurvée de telle sorte que la chambre de répartition d'air soit conique et exerce une pression uniforme à la surface du filtre. Ce système est conçu pour reposer sur le sol ou pour être fixé, soit verticalement soit horizontalement, à une paroi. Ledit système comporte en outre un mécanisme de commande qui lui permet de fonctionner à vitesse maximale pendant une période de temps préétablie puis de revenir automatiquement à son régime précédent.
