Disclosed herein is the preparation of woven fabrics suitable for use in manufacturing vehicle airbags. Such fabrics are woven from a plurality of polymeric, e.g., polyamide, warp and weft tapes which have preferably been slitted, preferably in the machine direction, from a thermoplastic polymer film, and preferably from such a film which has been drawn at least in the machine direction. The resulting fabrics exhibit both the relatively low basis weight, stiffness and small packing volume typical of nylon films, and the relatively high tear strength and high damage tolerance of yam-based woven airbag fabrics.
L'invention porte sur la préparation de tissus tissés appropriés pour être utilisés dans la fabrication de coussins de sécurité gonflables pour véhicule. Ces tissus sont tissés à partir d'une pluralité de bandes de chaîne et de trame polymères, par exemple en polyamide, qui ont été de préférence fendues, de préférence dans le sens machine, à partir d'un film polymère thermoplastique et, de préférence, à partir d'un film qui a été étiré au moins dans le sens machine. Les tissus résultants présentent tout à la fois un poids de base et une rigidité relativement faibles et un volume d'emballage réduit qui est caractéristique des films de nylon, et la résistance à la déchirure relativement élevée et la tolérance aux détériorations élevée que présentent des tissus pour coussin de sécurité gonflable tissés à partir de fil.
