Proposed is a housing for receiving a gas generator and an airbag for a passenger protective system in a motor vehicle, which, together with the gas generator, the airbag and, in some cases, a protective covering, a lid and fastening means, forms a module ready for installation. According to the invention, the housing (1) is composed of an essentially U-shaped body (2) and two mainly flat end covers (3). The body (2) has a uniform cross section lengthwise. The end covers (3) are joined to the body (2) by tension means (4, 5) disposed in the axial direction of the body (2). The tension means (4, 5) serve simultaneously for fastening the airbag (6) and, in some cases, a protective covering (7) or a lid (8). For the manufacture of the body (2), sections severed by cuts made perpendicular to the longitudinal axis from a stock material; the stock material can be a sheet-metal stock material, or an extruded stock material.
