The invention relates to an airbag system for motor vehicles, integrated in an inner trim piece, in particular, in a dashboard (16), comprising an airbag (5, 5', 5''), which is inflatable by means of a gas generator (8, 8', 8''). The inner trim piece comprises at least one dimensionally stable support (1, 1',k 1'') and an airbag cover (2, 2', 2''), which opens outwards under the pressure of the airbag (5, 5', 5'') filling with gas. The airbag cover (2, 2', 2'') is flexible and designed to yield to the pressure of the filling airbag (5, 5', 5''). The airbag (5, 5', 5'') is arranged under the cover (2, 2', 2'') in a housing (4, 4', 4''), connected to the support (1, 1', 1'').
