An improved fuel transfer pump (10) is provided for relatively high flow transfer of fuel from one aircraft to another during an inflight refueling procedure, wherein the fuel transfer pump (10) includes a jet-type scavenge pump (12) for evacuating residual fuel from a fuel line (14) or manifold (15). The scavenge pump (12) comprises a venturi element (56) connected along a recirculation conduit (48) through which a small fuel flow is diverted from the high pressure discharge side of the fuel transfer pump (10) for return to the fuel tank (20). The recirculation fuel flow induces a vacuum in a suction throat of the venturi element (56), and this vacuum is coupled by a suction line (58) to evacuate residual fuel from the fuel line (14) or manifold (15) to the fuel tank (20). A flow baffle (62) is mounted along the recirculation conduit (48) downstream from the venturi element (56) to ensure flooding and priming of the scavenge pump (12).
Cette invention se rapporte à une pompe de transfert de carburant (10) améliorée, servant à transférer avec un débit relativement élevé du carburant d'un avion vers un autre avion lors d'une procédure de ravitaillement en vol, cette pompe de transfert de carburant (10) comprenant une pompe de vidange du type à jet (12) servant à évacuer le carburant résiduel d'une conduite (14) ou d'un collecteur de carburant (15). Cette pompe de vidange (12) comporte un élément venturi (56) relié à un conduit de remise en circulation (48) par lequel un petit courant de carburant est dévié depuis le côté de décharge haute pression de la pompe de transfert (10) de carburant pour être renvoyé dans le réservoir de carburant (20). Le courant de carburant remis en circulation produit un vide dans un étranglement d'aspiration de l'élément venturi (56), et ce vide communique avec un conduit d'aspiration (58) qui permet d'évacuer le carburant résiduel de la conduite (14) ou du collecteur de carburant (15) vers le réservoir de carburant (20). Une chicane pour l'écoulement (62) est montée le long du conduit de remise en circulation (48) en aval de l'élément venturi (56), pour assurer l'immersion et l'amorce de la pompe de vidange (12).
