6239-1203 ABSTRACT An aircraft with interchangeable nose modules is disclosed. The aircraft has a fuselage terminating at a for- ward end at a forward bulkhead. There is a set of at least two nose modules adapted to be interchangeably mated separately to the fuselage at the forward bulkhead to complete the aerodyna- mic configuration of the aircraft, each nose module containing different aircraft mission-specific equipment. The aircraft has coupling means responsive to motion of any nose module toward the fuselage forward bulkhead into mating engagement with the fuselage for defining and establishing a predetermined mated positional relation of the nose module to the fuselage, the coupling means including cooperating progressively engage- able guide elements distributed between the nose modules and the fuselage and cooperable upon initial engagement thereof to establish a condition of gross positional alignment of a nose module with the fuselage and upon further engagement to define a condition of fine positional alignment with and mating the nose module to the fuselage. The coupling means also includes electrical connection means distributed between the nose modules and the fuselage cooperable upon mating of the nose module to the fuselage to establish electrical connections between the nose equipment and selected components in the fusel- age to provide for the transfer of signals therebetween.
