The present invention relates to airfoils (60), and in particular turbine blades (61) and vanes (92), having cooling slots (45) that are angled from a line of reference (35) to effect metering of cooling air through the cooling slots (45) thereof. This metered cooling airflow also creates a more stable film cooling layer (30) about the surface of the airfoil (60).
