The present invention provides an air jet unit for assisting the take off of a float or ski plane. The invention provides a jet unit for assisting take off of a water plane from a water surface, said jet unit being attached under the water plane and in contact with the water surface during take off, the jet unit comprising: at least one jet nozzle; and an exhaust duct to discharge fluid at a high velocity, wherein the at least one jet nozzle is installed in the exhaust duct and connected to a pneumatic source via an electromagnetic valve, and wherein when the electromagnetic valve is opened by an electric signal from a cockpit associated with the water plane, water in the exhaust duct is discharged by compressed air which is forcefully ejected from the at least one jet nozzle, thereby creating a high velocity jet stream in the water surface. Using the present invention the take off distance for the plane can be shortened.
