An airship having near vertical take-off and landing capabilities is provided. The airship has a lifting buoyant gas hull with an equipment module that is coupled to said buoyant gas hull by means of a robotic-like arm. A single propeller- rotor assembly that is mounted on the equipment module serves to provide both forward propulsion as well as thrusts for the directional control of the airship, which is achieved by the manipulation of the rotating joints of said arm.
