Soft-tipped airway exchange apparatus (10) for use when replacing an endotracheal tube (30) in a patient with a new endotracheal tube (30). The apparatus (10) comprises a polymeric catheter body sized for insertion into a passageway of the endotracheal tube (30), for ventilating the patient during replacement of the endotracheal tube (30). The catheter body has a proximal portion (12), a distal portion (16) and a ventilation passageway (17) extending longitudinally therein. The distal portion (16) has a rigidity which is less than the rigidity of the proximal portion (12).

L'invention concerne un appareil (10) d'échange aérien à pointe douce utilisé pour remplacer, chez un patient, un tube trachéal (30) par un nouveau. L'appareil (10) comprend un corps de cathéter polymère dont les dimensions permettent son introduction dans un passage du tube trachéal (30) afin de ventiler le patient lors du remplacement du tube trachéal (30). Le corps de cathéter présente une partie proximale (12), une partie distale (16) et un passage de ventilation s'y étendant longitudinalement. La partie distale (16) présente une rigidité inférieure à celle de la partie proximale (12).
