2134869 9323592 PCTABS00028 A process is provided for flash-spinning plexifilamentary film-fibril strands of a fiber-forming polyolefin from a C1-4 alcohol or a C1-4 alcohol/co-solvent spin liquid that, if released to the atmosphere, presents no or a greatly reduced ozone depletion hazard, as compared to the halocarbon spin liquids currently used commercially for making such strands. The resulting flash-spun plexifilamentary film-fibril strands are well fibrillated and are of a quality equivalent to commercially available strands. The invention also covers the spin liquids useful in the inventive process.
