ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process is disclosed for the aldol condensation of enolizable aldehydes to alpha, beta-unsaturated aldehydes, at high selectivities, employing a metal carboxylate catalyst. The process uses a catalyst that is a metal carboxylate wherein the metal is selected from the group consisting of magnesium, copper, zinc and the transition elements of Groups IV, V, VI, VII and VIII.
