Antibodies that catalyse the aldol reaction are generated by immunization with a reactive compound that covalently traps a Lysine (Lys) residue in the binding pocket of the antibody by formation of a stable vinylogous amide, i.e., a covalent antibody/hapten complex. The resultant catalytic antibodies employ a catalytic mechanism which mimics the catalytic mechanism employed by natural class I aldolase enzymes.

Des anticorps qui catalysent la réaction d'aldéhyde-alcool sont générés par immunisation par un composé réactif. Ce dernier piège, par covalence, un résidu de Lysine (Lys) dans la poche de liaison de l'anticorps, en assurant la formation d'un amide vinylogue stable, c'est-à-dire, un complexe anticorps covalent/haptène. Les anticorps catalytiques ainsi obtenus utilisent un mécanisme catalytique qui mime le mécanisme catalytique utilisé par les enzymes aldolases naturelles de classe I.
