ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A device for controlling the growth of algae in water comprises a conduit having an inlet and an outlet and several zinc plates mounted in a centre section of this conduit. The plates are arranged and constructed so that water flowing through the conduit comes into intimate contact with the plates. The plates are made of substantially pure zinc and each has a number of holes therein to permit the flow of water therethrough. Preferably the conduit is constructed from PCV pipe sections. The end sections of the conduit are made from pipe reducers and each tapers radially inwardly in an axial direction away from the centre section.
