ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A clear dentifrice comprising a dentifrice vehicle comprising a polishing agent having an empirical SiO2content of at least 70% and an index of refraction between 1.44 and 1.47 and a liquid phase having a matching index of refraction, a solid phase, an alkali metal fluoride or monofluoro- phosphate and a surface active system comprising narrow cut alkali metal lauryl sulphate and a further anionic surface active agent which is an alkali metal salt of a substantially saturated higher aliphatic acid amide of a lower aliphatic amino carboxylic acid compound, an alkali metal salt of a substantially saturated higher fatty aliphatic alcohol alkylene oxide sul- phates or an anionic phosphate mono- and di- ester mixture, the ratio of alkali metal lauryl sulphate to the further anionic surface acid agent being at least 3:1. These clear gel dentifrices have reduced haziness and cloudiness despite the presence of "narrow cut" sodium or other alkali metal lauryl sulphate.
