The present invention provides a method of inhibiting .beta.-amyloid toxicity in brain cells. The method includes administering to the cells an amount of an alkaline phosphatase inhibitor which is pharmacologically effective to reduce degeneration in the cells. Methods of treatment of peripheral neuropathy are also provided using acid or alkaline phosphatase inhibitors.
L'invention se rapporte à un procédé pour inhiber la toxicité de la beta -amyloïde dans les cellules du cerveau. Ce procédé consiste à administrer à ces cellules un agent inhibiteur de la phosphatase alcaline selon une quantité qui est efficace d'un point de vue pharmacologique pour réduire la dégénération dans ces cellules. L'invention décrit également des procédés pour traiter les neuropathies périphériques en utilisant des inhibiteurs de la phosphatase acide ou alcaline.
