- 1 - Abstract The invention provides a leak-proof cylindrical alkaline cell. The cell comprises a positive can, positive and negative chemical elements in the positive can to gener- ate an electrical potential in the known way, a nail-shaped negative collector and a sealing member formed of a gasket and a washer. The negative collector has a head with an annular lower surface which is parallel to the upper surface of an inner peripheral portion of the washer, so that the portion of the gasket sandwiched between these surfaces is uniformly compressed to establish a tight seal and thus prevent leakage.
