The present invention relates to an improved sorbent for use in removing effluents such as sulfur dioxide from combustion gas streams. The sorbent comprises a hydroxide formed from an alkaline-earth based material such as lime and having incorporated therein an iron and organic compound promotion addition to enhance its ability to remove effluents from the gas stream. The sorbent is formed by co-dissolving an iron salt and an organic compound in a hydration solution and thereafter mixing the hydration solution containing the iron salt and the organic compound with an alkaline-earth based material. The sorbent thus produced may be injected into a gas stream in either dry or slurry form to remove the effluents.
La présente invention concerne un sorbant amélioré pour éliminer les effluents, comme le dioxyde de soufre, des flux de gaz de combustion. Le sorbant comprend un hydroxyde formé d'un matériau de type alcalino-terreux comme la chaux dans lequel sont incorporés du fer et un composé organique pour augmenter sa capacité à éliminer les effluents dans les flux de gaz. Le sorbant est formé par co-dissolution d'un sel de fer et d'un composé organique dans une solution d'hydratation et par mélange subséquent de la solution d'hydratation contenant le sel de fer et le composé organique avec un matériau de type alcalino-terreux. Le sorbant ainsi produit peut être injecté dans un flux de gaz soit sous forme sèche ou de bouillie pour éliminer les effluents.
