The invention relates to an aqueous sizing composition including (a) an emulsion comprising alkenylsuccinic anhydride component containing alkenylsuccinic anhydride particles suspended in an aqueous polymer, and (b) a second component selected from the group consisting of cationic starches, non- ionic starches, anionic starches, water-soluble polymer, water and mixtures thereof, such that the alkenylsuccinic anhydride component is sufficiently dilute to enable the sizing composition to impart useful sizing properties to a fibrous substrate when the sizing composition contacts the fibrous substrate. The invention also relates to fibrous substrates treated with such a composition as well as processes for making and using the composition. In one embodiment, alkylene ketene dimer can be used instead of alkenylsuccinic anhydride.
Cette invention concerne une composition d'encollage aqueuse comprenant (a) une émulsion renfermant un composant anhydride alcénylsuccinique contenant des particules d'anhydride alcénylsuccinique en suspension dans un polymère aqueux ; et (b) un second composant sélectionné dans le groupe renfermant des amidons cationiques, des amidons non ioniques, des amidons ioniques, un polymère soluble dans l'eau, de l'eau et des mélanges de ceux-ci, de façon que le composant anhydride alcénylsuccinique soit suffisamment dilué pour permettre à la composition d'encollage de conférer des propriétés de collage utiles à un substrat fibreux lorsque la composition d'encollage touche le substrat fibreux. Cette invention concerne également des substrats fibreux traités avec cette composition ainsi que des procédés de production et d'utilisation de cette composition. Dans un mode de réalisation, un dimère alkylène cétène peut être utilisé à la place de l'anhydride alcénylsuccinique.
