Abstract of the Disclosure This invention concerns a new class of compositions for the sizing of paper and the method of treating paper using such compositions. Such new compositions comprise the reaction products of glyoxal and a hydrophobe which contains at least one hydroxyl group. Such compositions can be used either for internal or surface sizing.
