A process for the alkoxylation of organic compounds containing at least one active hydrogen which process comprises reacting said organic compound with an alkylene oxide in the presence of a catalytically effective amount of a catalyst comprising the salt of at least one element chosen from a Group Ia or Group IIa or rare earth element and an oxy-acid of at least one element chosen from a Group IVb, Group Vb or Group VIb element or mixtures thereof wherein said catalyst is supported on an inert or active support and/or comprises hydrophobic groups. An alkoxylation catalyst comprising the salt of at least one element chosen from a Group Ia or Group IIa or rare earth element and an oxy-acid of at least one element chosen from a Group IVb, Group Vb or Group VIb element or mixtures thereof wherein said catalyst comprises hydrophobic groups and is supported on an inert or active support.

Procédé d'alcoxylation de composés organiques renfermant au moins un hydrogène actif. Le procédé consiste à faire réagir ledit composé organique avec un oxyde d'alkylène en présence d'une quantité à efficacité catalytique d'un catalyseur comportant le sel d'au moins un élément du Groupe Ia ou du Groupe IIa ou des terres rares, et un oxacide d'au moins un élément choisi dans le Groupe IVb, le Groupe Vb ou le Groupe VIb, ou leurs mélanges, ledit catalyseur étant porté par un support inerte ou actif et/ou doté de groupes hydrophobes. On a également prévu un catalyseur d'alcoxylation comportant le sel d'au moins un élément du Groupe Ia, du Groupe IIa ou des terres rares, et un oxacide d'au moins un élément choisi dans le Groupe IVb, le Groupe Vb ou le Groupe VIb, ou leurs mélanges, ledit catalyseur comportant des groupes hydrophobes et étant porté par un support inerte ou actif.
