Disclosed is the use of one or more molten salts or a mixture thereof for use as a reaction medium in a process for the preparation of an aromatic diacid which comprises heating an alkali metal salt of an aromatic monocarboxylic acid or asymmetrical aromatic dicarboxylic acid under pressure with carbon dioxide gas in the presence of a catalyst at suitable reaction conditions. The molten salt reaction medium provides advantages in a disproportionation reaction to produce, for example, purified terephthalic acid. In another aspect of the invention, novel methylated diacids are produced.
L'invention concerne une utilisation d'un ou plusieurs sels fondu(s) ou d'un mélange de ceux-ci, à employer comme support de réaction dans un procédé de préparation d'un diacide aromatique, qui comporte le chauffage d'un sel de métal alcalin d'un acide monocarboxylique aromatique ou d'un acide dicarboxylique aromatique asymétrique sous pression avec un dioxyde de carbone gazeux, en présence d'un catalyseur et dans des conditions de réaction adéquates. Le support de réaction fourni par les sels fondus procure certains avantages dans une réaction de dismutation afin de produire, par exemple, un acide téréphtalique purifié. Dans un autre aspect de la présente invention, de nouveaux diacides méthylés sont produits.
