Novel alkyl-substituted aromatic polyester gas sep- aration membranes and the process of using such mem- branes to separate one or more gases from a gaseous mix- ture is disclosed. The polyesters are formed from aro- matic alcohols of formula (I) where Z is independently alkyl groups having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, most preferably a tertiary butyl group, n is an integer from 0 to 4, prefer- ably 1.
