ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for alkylating an aromatic hydrocarbon which comprises reacting said hydrocarbon with an olefinic hydrocarbon in the presence of a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite catalyst having a silica to alumina ratio of at least 12 and a constraint index in the range 1 to 12 and which has been treated so as to include at least 0.5 weight percent of phosphorus (by weight of the zeolite) in intimate association therewith.
