ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention provides oral compositions which are effective to inhibit formation of dental calculus. The composition comprises an alklenedioxybis (alkyl-propanedioic acid) compound selected from the group consisting of acids having the formula: Image wherein R is hydrogen or lower alkyl and each R can be the same or different from the other R in said formula, and pharmaceutically acceptable salts of said acids; together with a carrier suitable for use in the oral cavity. The invention provides compounds of relatively simple structure and low molecular weight and can be prepared without use of a polymerization process.
