2149122 9412467 PCTABS00032 Surface-active N-alkylglyceramides of formula (I), wherein R is a C8-24 hydrocarbon radical, are effective surfactants and foaming agents, useful in detergent and personal product compositions. They may advantageously be used as a cosurfactant or foam enhancer in combination with another surfactant, especially an anionic surfactant, for example, primary alcohol sulphate or alkylbenzene sulphonate.
