Abstract of the Disclosure The present invention relates to novel .beta.-alkyl melatonins which have valuable ovulation inhibition activity, pharmaceutical formulations comprising such novel compounds in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent, processes for making such compounds, and novel intermediates thereto. These novel melatonins possess greater ovulation inhibition activity, or a longer ovulatory effect, than previously known melatonin derivatives.
