A B S T R A C T ALKYLXYLENE SULPHONATE COMPOUNDS, THEIR PREPARATION AND USE The invention provides alkylxylene sulphonate compounds of general formula Image (I) or a metal or ammonium salt thereof, wherein R is a C6-20alkyl group, characterized in that at least 25 %w of the compounds of formula I comprise at least one compound of general formula Image (II) wherein one of R1 and R2 is a methyl group, the other being a C6-20 alkl group of formula Image wherein n' is 0, 1, 2 or 3 and (n + n') is a number in the range 4 to 18, their preparation and their use in detergent compo- sitions and methods of displacing oil.
