ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Alkyne compounds of the formula Image wherein R1 is alkyl of up to 4 carbon atoms or phenyl, R2 is H or alkanoyl of up to 6 carbon atoms, A is monohalophenyl or dihalophenyl wherein halo is F, C1 or Br and n is 0 or 1; and physiologically acceptable metal salts thereof have anit-inflammatory activity. These compounds can be made by treating compounds of the formula Image wherein Q is a functionally modified hydroxyl group and R1, A and n are as above, with a solvolyzing agent. When R2 is to be alkanoyl, the thus- produced alkyne compound wherein R2 is hydrogen is thereafter treated with an acylating agent in order to produce a corresponding compound wherein R2 is alkanoyl of up to 6 carbon atoms.
