In a protective coat collar of the type having a rear portion, opposite side portions, and a front portion having releaseable closing means therein, the improvement comprising the rear portion extending upwardly to the crown of the head of the wearer, the opposite side portions extending downwardly from the rear portion to a height substantially above the ears, and the front portion extending upwardly to a height below the eyes but above the bottom portion of the nose. The disclosed collar provides good visibility, hearing, and excellent wind protection. It may be conveniently stored in a downturned position.
