BASE-AND-CAP TYPE PNEUMATIC TIRES ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A pneumatic tire including a tread, a pair of sidewalls, a pair of bead portions, a radial carcass and at least two belt layers. A pair of two circumferential main grooves are continuously extended in the circumfer- ential direction of the tread and opposed to each other through an equatorial plane of the tire. A portion of the tread sandwiched between a pair of the circumferential main grooves in an axially central zone is constituted by an inner rubber layer located on a radially inner side and outer rubber layer located on a radially outer side. The inner rubber layer is made of a foamed rubber having rubber characteristics different from those of the outer rubber layer. A radially outer peripheral surface of the inner rubber layer is so located that a thickness of the inner rubber layer as measured radially outwardly from a bottom of the circumferential main groove is not more than 70 % a depth of the circumfer- ential main groove but not less than 2 mm. The radially outer peripheral surface of the inner rubber layer is preferably located near a location spaced radially outwardly from the bottoms of the circumferential main grooves by 1/2 of the depth of the circumferentially main grooves.
