A network communication device for directing data units over a communication network includes at least one input and/or output port arranged to receive and/or transmit data units, a plurality of buffer units divided into several sub-pools, and a buffer allocator for allocating buffer units between the sub-pools. The buffer allocator is arranged to determine a priority value for each sub-pool based on quality of service for each connection established at at least one port. The buffer allocator is also arranged to determine a utilization value of the port, and arranged to allocate buffer units for each sub-pool based on the priority value and based on the utilization value. The buffer allocator creates a precedence list to ensure that a minimal number of connections which are established at a most utilized port, will suffer data unit loss while receiving the data units.
L'invention concerne un dispositif de communication par réseau permettant de diriger des unités de données sur un réseau de communication. Ce dispositif comprend au moins un accès d'entrée et/ou de sortie destiné à recevoir et/ou à émettre des unités de données, une pluralité d'unités tampons divisées en plusieurs sous-ensembles, et un dispositif d'affectation de tampons permettant d'affecter des unités tampons entre ces sous-ensembles. Ce dispositif d'affectation de tampons est conçu pour définir une valeur de priorité pour chacun de ces sous-ensembles, en fonction de la qualité d'écoulement du trafic de chaque connexion établie par l'intermédiaire d'au moins un accès. Ce dispositif d'affectation de tampons est en outre destiné à définir une valeur d'utilisation pour chaque accès et à affecter des unités tampons à chaque sous-ensemble, selon la valeur de priorité et la valeur d'utilisation. Ce dispositif d'affectation de tampons permet également d'établir une liste de priorité afin de faire en sorte que seul un nombre limité de connexions, lesquelles sont établies par l'intermédiaire de l'accès le plus utilisé, subisse la perte d'unités de données au moment de la réception de ces unités de données.
